Here's what happened this week in Kansas transportation
Kansas youth are joining together to reduce substance abuse and promote safe driving. Kansas Family Partnership (KFP) will host more than 160 high school students and adult advisers from 15 Kansas counties during the 13th annual Kansas Youth Leadership Summit (KYLS), August 3-5, at Rock Springs 4-H Center, 1168 Highway K157, Junction City. KYLS is a program sponsored by KDOT that focuses on reducing underage alcohol and drug use and encouraging safety belt use and safe driving behavior among Kansas youth. KYLS is open to teams of incoming high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors from any Kansas community.
Kansas Export Form to be held August 27. KDOT has partnered with the Kansas Departments of Commerce and Agriculture to host the Kansas Export Forum in late August. The forum will bring together public and private sector speakers and attendees to identify transportation challenges faced by small- and medium-sized businesses and to discuss ways to streamline supply chains and stimulate international trade. The export will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Ball Conference Center in Olathe. A full agenda can be found at KansasCommerce.com/ExportForum.
Poster contest aims to Put the Brakes on Fatalities. All Kansas kids ages 5 to 13 are encouraged to enter artwork in the 13th annual poster contest for Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day - a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce traffic fatalities. Three statewide winners will receive family packages at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City and also $50 gift cards from Dillon’s of Kansas. A total of 18 regional winners in the six regions and age groups (ages 5-7, ages 8-10 and ages 11-13) will each receive a bicycle and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas.
