Hiking
and biking as well as horseback riding are fun activities that can be done in
hundreds of locations across Kansas. Today’s Motoring Mondays feature is
highlighting one in particular – Milford State Park.
Milford
Lake is the largest reservoir in the state. It has a 19,000-acre wildlife area
on the west and upper end of the reservoir and the Steve Lloyd refuge has an
additional 1,100 acres.
According
to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website, a few of the trails include:
- Waterfall Trail - A 0.6-mile trail through woodland and prairie habitats.
- Crystal Trail - A 2.2-mile trail where geode rocks, deer and other wildlife can be seen.
- Eagle Ridge Equestrian Trail – More than eight miles of horseback riding on some scenic and diverse areas.
- Wildlife Viewing Tower & Trail - The 21-foot tower is accessed from a wrap-around staircase.. Excellent wildlife viewing area.
- Tallgrass Trail - A 1/2-mile loop or a longer 1.5-mile hike through wooded areas, native prairie grass and to a nearby pond.
- Meadow Willow Trail - A 1/2 mile trail with seven bridges, one of which is a covered bridge.
- Wild Acres Trail - A 1/4 mile walk to discover Kansas' wildflowers.
- Woodland Trail - A one-mile trail that travels through a bird sanctuary and down to a small pond oasis.
