Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

“Brace for Impact.”

These are the last three words 155 passengers heard before their plane crashed in the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009.  Today marks the five-year anniversary of the “Miracle on the Hudson” in which all passengers on US Airways Flight 1549 survived despite making an emergency landing in the icy river.

These simple words were calmly spoken by Captain Chelsey (Sully) Sullenberger to prepare passengers for what was about to occur.

The U.S. Senate passed a resolution honoring the heroic efforts of Captain Sullenberger, his crew, the passengers, and first responders. It’s easy to forget how many people work each and every day to keep us safe when we travel.  Whether it’s the people who design it, those who build it, those who enforce safety rules or simply our fellow travelers who obey the rules, so much goes into keeping us safe in the air and on the ground.  And today we want to say thank you to all those whose efforts help keep us safe!
