Kansas highway workers share some chilling details of close calls they
have experienced in work zones in the final “In Their Boots”
video series.
It doesn’t
matter whether it’s a rural two-lane highway or a multi-lane urban
expressway – the stories shared happen all too often while highway workers are
trying to do their jobs.
Please
remember there are people in these highway work zones who want to go home to
their families at night.

To all of you who work alongside the highways, thank you for everything you do to construct and maintain our roadways. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Although we are thankful that these instances were close calls, it doesn't take much to turn them into tragic situations. Drivers need to be aware in any and all situations, especially those where workers are on the roadway. At highway speeds, it is almost guaranteed that a person hit by a car will not survive. In many situations, workers are between vehicles or protected only by cones. Please be cautious and know those few extra seconds or minutes you gain by speeding through a work zone is not more valuable than the life of a friend or family member.
