It's up to you to improve work zone safety

We’re wrapping up National Work Zone Awareness Week with a final video.

Highway workers know their family members and friends are concerned about their safety. Workers don’t want their loved ones to worry about whether or not they are coming home tonight. Please take the time to slow down and pay attention.

To all of you who work alongside the highways, thank you for everything you do to construct and maintain our roadways. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

  1. Folks should be thankful for the good roads that highway workers provide. It's OK to take extra time to be safe in a work zone. Everyone should be able to go home to their loved ones after work. So phone down, slow down and pay attention in Work Zones.

  2. As someone who's been in the work zones with some of the gentlemen in this video, it's astonishing to see how many motorists go through a work zone on their phone, distracted or do not move over for them and it's scary to watch! Show these guys respect for taking care of our roads, they may not be your family, but they're someone's family and their loved ones want them to come home!

  3. I'm really sorry family members have to worry all the time about their loved ones' safety. It really isn't too much to ask people to slow down and pay attention in work zones. I'm pretty sure their driving would drastically change if their family member worked along the highway. Please remember, a minute or two isn't worth risking someone's life.

  4. Watching these videos have been a real eye opener for me. I think most people appreciate the time and effort highway workers put into maintaining the highways and don't want to injure anyone or hurt their family. Now, we just need to remember the things the workers and family members said this week whenever we're driving in work zones.
